BIO: This ice house is one of a pair at Ashland, the Henry Clay Estate. Henry came to Lexington, Kentucky at the age of 20 from Hanover County, VA as a newly licensed lawyer. He and his wife, Lucretia, purchased the 1st land for the future estate in 1804 and built the main part of the house in 1806. The two ice houses plus a dairy cellar were added in 1830.
